"Opus 87, the Story of a Soviet Genius" portrays the life of the Russian Star-Pianist Tatyana Nikolayeva, inspired by three musical themes by the famous Russian composer Dmitri Shostakovich.
Tatyana Nikolayeva was the winner of the Bach Leipzig Piano Competition in 1950. Shostakovich, who appeared as an adjudicator at the competition, admired her way of playing and musicality that much, that he
chose her to perform during the première and make the first recording of his "24 Preludes and Fugues, opus 87". The piece which became an ode to the master Johann Sebastian Bach.

"Opus 87, the Story of a Soviet Genius" was commissioned by Brass Band Bacchus (Belgium) and their conductor Bart Van Neyghem, as own choice piece on the Belgian Nationals 2019 (1st division).
